So, I read a lot. I read FF a lot. Like, A LOT. I read books too, but I usually have to go back to FF in between chapters just to get my fix. I'm lame, I admit it.
But since I read so much I've noticed that there are some OVERLY USED WORDS AND PHRASES in FF.
I blame SMeyer. She started this bsns with her 85,765 "chagrined's" and her 1,287,563,986 "glowered's". I was reading some book the other week and they used the word "glowered" and it made me laugh. I wonder if SM read that book too. She probably read it, loved the word and made a little sticky note to herself...so when she sat down to write Twilight, she would remember to use that word.
Tonight I was reading the updates from two of my FAV fics....they are written by awesome ladies who never cease to amaze me with their brilliance. And it was early Christmas too because I got to read my favorite phrases. This srsly makes me smile (there is NO sarcasm in this statement!!). It's like knowing we all read the same shit, we're beginning to all sound alike. You know... like when a group of women all live together and their periods begin at the same time.... this is kinda like that but only in..... oh nevermind...
ANYHOO.....
Here are two of my favorite overly used words and phrases in Twi-fic:
FIND/FOUND PURCHASE
- as in "her hands found purchase on his chest"
About a year ago I read that and I was like wow this writer is so literary and has a great vocabulary....then the 2nd time I read it, I was like wow, another smart writer....by the third time I was like okay, these bitches are using each others words. Where the hell did that come from anyway?!?
IT'S NOT MY STORY/SECRET TO TELL
This one I'm pretty certain has it's origin in Canon. And it's usually used in reference to a meddling Alice trying desperately to tell Bella how awesome Edward is despite his usual fuckery, but he obv has an excuse due to some horrific event in his past. I love when I read this phrase because I know in another chapter or two, the SECRET WILL BE REVEALED!
What overly used words or
phrases have you noticed?
